A weekly update from Coach Rodrigo and Coach Fraser Save the date: December 4, 2021. We are planning an event for that day. More details to come. Swimming We started to dive. Always a big part of a swimmer's career. Was it pretty? I am happy to report, it was. Everyone was smiling and that's how I measure success. We did get some great dives from some of our swimmers and now we'll work on the proper etiquette to getting on the blocks as we get ready to race at swim meets. The more we [...]

Junior WAVES Coaches’ Update — Week 5 — 2021/2022

A weekly update from Coach Rodrigo and Coach Fraser Save the date: December 4, 2021. We are planning an event for that day. More details to come. Swimming The fins are working well as we focus on the power part of the front crawl as the hand travels under the water. The fins give the swimmers the required power to stay afloat so that they can focus on the drills. The power comes from swimming straight (this is harder than it sounds) by keeping the hand in line with the shoulder and moving that water [...]

When is a swim club more than just a swim club? A Celebration.

By Fraser Anderson Capital Wave - Head Coach Swimming On October 6th, 2021 Capital Wave officially became a swim club registered with Swim Ontario. This post is in celebration of this important development in our club's history. This past year, like many passionate swimmers, I picked up the book Why We Swim by Bonnie Tsui. The book is a celebration of being in the water, the benefits that we take from the experience of being submerged, and wanting to share that joy with others. This past summer as I started my morning swim in the [...]

Junior WAVES Coaches’ Update — Week 4 — 2021/2022

A weekly update from Coach Rodrigo and Coach Fraser Another week in the books and we're already seeing great improvements from our dual-sport athletes. Swimming You've probably heard from your athlete that the fins have come out for practice. A lot of the drills that we do require core and leg strength that just isn't there yet, so the fins provide that extra lift in the water. The bonus for the kids is that fins are fun. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We hope it was a pleasant break for your family. Water Polo [...]
