I hope everyone had a good time at Brockville yesterday. There were some great performances from our athletes.
Of particular interest was watching the athletes that started swimming and water polo two years ago and are now in the 15U training group. With the Ottawa U pool closure, this group has not been able to train for swimming as much as they should, but they still turned in some great performances and time improvements. Well done to Adelle, Charlie, Paige, Stan, Luca (almost under 30!), Odin, Max, Bea, Liam (with a great 50 FL), Siena (with another great 50 FL), Skawennahawi, Chiara, Katt, Aaron, Norah (with yet another great 50 FL), Jorge and Audrey.
The strength and power that our 15U/17U athletes are building is a testament to our club.
And what spirit we had on deck! No one can match the WAVE athletes when it comes to supporting our teammates. Because we all play together, we are a swim team like no other! When everyone cheered for Charlie’s 50M BR win, it brought down the house and put some big smiles on a lot of faces. A moment to remember.
And, yes, the deck was clean after the meet and good behaviour was noted.
Perth
The next swim meet is on October 28 in Perth.
Please bring a canned good/diapers/feminine hygiene product to the meet as the Stingrays are collecting for the local food bank.
We are currently oversubscribed with 70 sign-ups and only 60 spots. Priority will be given to those athletes that were unable to attend Brockville.Â
There are relays for this meet. If you need to drop out of the meet and you are in a relay, please let me know as soon as possible in order to mitigate disappointment.
Petawawa
WAVE will be attending the Petawawa Poppy meet in November (LINK). This is the same weekend as the Shadow Cup water polo tournament and the NCL water polo tournament in Montreal for our senior athletes. It will be a very busy weekend for the club and most, if not all, coaches will be engaged in those events – if you remain in Ottawa, do not expect business as usual.
The Poppy Meet is ideal with our younger athletes that are unable to attend the Shadow Cup and are looking for a fun swim meet. There will be 25M events at this meet. Details and sign up forms coming soon.
13U Dryland
13U dryland starts this Thursday at BMRC (7:00 PM). We will meet at 6:50 at the bottom of the stairs to the pool. Please bring appropriate clothing and footwear, a ball, and a mat.
And finally, the MiniLoo
We’re going to have a little fun this coming Saturday. Instead of the regular practices, we’ll be doing some racing at our first ever MiniLoo. The events and heat sheets will be out by Wednesday – all I do know is that by special request, there will be some Fly (with fins). The fun starts at 5:15.
Life is always better in the water,
Coach Fraser
