When is a swim club more than just a swim club? A Celebration.

By Fraser Anderson Capital Wave - Head Coach Swimming On October 6th, 2021 Capital Wave officially became a swim club registered with Swim Ontario. This post is in celebration of this important development in our club's history. This past year, like many passionate swimmers, I picked up the book Why We Swim by Bonnie Tsui. The book is a celebration of being in the water, the benefits that we take from the experience of being submerged, and wanting to share that joy with others. This past summer as I started my morning swim in the [...]

Junior WAVES Coaches’ Update — Week 4 — 2021/2022

A weekly update from Coach Rodrigo and Coach Fraser Another week in the books and we're already seeing great improvements from our dual-sport athletes. Swimming You've probably heard from your athlete that the fins have come out for practice. A lot of the drills that we do require core and leg strength that just isn't there yet, so the fins provide that extra lift in the water. The bonus for the kids is that fins are fun. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We hope it was a pleasant break for your family. Water Polo [...]

Junior WAVES Coaches’ Update — Week 3 — 2021/2022

A weekly update from Coach Rodrigo and Coach Fraser Another week in the books and we're already seeing great improvements from our dual-sport athletes. Swimming I will never get tired of saying, "streamline".  I know the athletes might be getting tired of hearing it, but it's fundamental to success. This past week we continued with streamline and introducing rotation in the front crawl so that one shoulder is out of the water at any given time. Rotation is a big part of streamline as we're trying to minimize the amount of resistance from our bodies. [...]
