Good evening,
I just wanted to update you all on the covid situation at Capital Wave.
We have two additional cases, for a total of three in the club. The athletes who have tested positive had exposure to Covid-19 outside of CW activities, so while we cannot be 100% positive, in consultation with OPH, we do not believe there was transmission at any of our practices.
That said, we encourage you to follow the direction of OPH and, if your child has any symptoms, please have them quarantined and/or tested using your best discretion and advice from OPH.
As you know, out of an abundance of caution we have canceled practices through the holidays with an expected resumption of activities on January 3rd. This is, of course, dependent on whether or not we are under new restrictions from the province. We have also been told that Carleton is shut down until January 9. Under the same topic, we have been informed that the vaccine policy for the city is as follows:
For youth that turn 12 in 2022, there is a grace period of 12 weeks from their birth date during which they won’t be required to show proof of vaccination, after which they will need to.
Furthermore, Please be advised that Carleton University will be requiring proof of full vaccination for children aged 5 to 11 commencing March 14, 2022. In order to comply with the University’s vaccination requirements, it is recommended that children between ages 5 and 11 receive their first dose by January 3 and their second dose by March 1, 2022. Full vaccination is considered 14 days after the second dose.
We have yet to hear from the University of Ottawa on any updated vaccine related requirements.
We are also keeping a close eye on the NCL schedule as the 17u teams are scheduled to attend the first tournament in Markham in January. We have not yet heard anything on the subject, but will communicate any information we learn as we learn it.
If your athlete becomes ill, tests positive or negative, please let us know at covid@capitalwave.ca, the more information we have the better to track this with OPH.
We have our fingers crossed for a resumption of activities as soon as possible. We have seen a great amount of improvement in our athletes, the kids are getting stronger and faster in the pool as well as more skilled with the ball!
Happy holidays to all our athletes, their families, coaches and the rest of our community that makes the club a happy and welcoming place for all our kids.
Kind regards,
Jason
