Thanks to all the Team Managers and to Lisa for all the email and website updates. I will try not to duplicate efforts and present material from a coach’s perspective.
Congratulations to all athletes that participated in the March Madness tournament this past weekend. All of the WAVE teams should be proud of their performances and their fighting spirit. The 15U girls managed to get Silver with some nail-biting games against some top teams. Our 15U boys also did us proud with a great game against the Mavericks that went into overtime. The 13U teams also did well — the girls team never backed down and are truly going to be the team to beat in the upcoming Provincial championship. The boys 13U team also did well considering that most of the team was our 11U. Excellent job!
The 11Us, backed up by our fantastic goaltender Nicole, were just shy of a medal with a great performance under not-so-ideal conditions against Hamilton. There were some great efforts from our young ones, that won’t soon be forgotten.
Upcoming events
The next swim meet will be in Petawawa on April 15th. This is a one-day event with warm-up at 9:00 AM. The pool is 25m and there are comfortable stands for all the fans. WAVE will be bringing over 50 athletes to the meet.
Training
This is Championship Season. We will be training hard for the upcoming tournaments and meets and your athlete will need to attend as many practices as possible during this important time. Strategies will be discussed, endurance will be built, and skills will be honed. Please ensure that your athlete is getting enough rest and that if they are sick that they stay away from training until fully recovered so as not to infect others.
Final thoughts
The teams for Provincials will be released tomorrow. It’s important to have a discussion with your athlete about their placement. If there is upset in your household, please let the coaching staff know and we can talk to the athlete about their placement. It’s better to have that discussion, than not.
Life is always better in the water,
Fraser
