Thanks to all the Team Managers and to Lisa for all the email and website updates. I will try not to duplicate efforts and present material from a coach’s perspective.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the pep rally last Friday. I hope that this is the first of many. The Tidal Wave (i.e. – the parents) has been born and we are looking forward for their enthusiastic participation at all of our galas, meets and tournaments.

Perth Candy Cane

WAVE is going to rock Perth!

WAVE will attend a meet in Perth on Sunday, December 11. The meet will be over around noon with warm-up at 7:30 AM. There will be relays. Currently, we have close to 60 athletes attending.

Swim meets are where you get faster. If you don’t race, you can’t expect to get faster.  Plus, it’s fun.

Belleville Swim Meet

WAVE took a small but dedicated team to Belleville and managed to bring home 22 medals – LINK – and some memories of some great performances. Our 10U boys continue to dominate and we had some great performances from our girls as well.

Here are some highlights –

  • Nicole put in a great 100 BR and 200 BR and is almost qualified for Festivals in February. Let’s see if she can make it at Perth!
  • The boys 12U Fr relay once again won in Belleville in an exciting finish coming from behind to crush the opposition – this is becoming a habit!
  • Stanley taking 14 seconds off his 100 BK – who knew? did someone throw a ball in his lane?
  • Gordon taking gold in 5 of his six events — and still so modest
  • Sam R. for participating in his first official meet and realizing how fun it can be to be a part of a winning relay team and turning in some great performances
  • Alex for his great dives, super streamline and knocking bucket loads of time off all his events
  • Gabe for his silver medal performance in the 100 IM
  • Nathan medaling in 5 events and qualifying for Regionals in the 200 BR
  • Cameron taking over 2 seconds off his 50 FR
  • Will for being and youngest and most spirited participant
  • Yaro taking 6 seconds off his 50 FR
  • Scotty for conquering the 50 FR with a great debut by breaking the 50 second mark
  • Galia for almost breaking the 1 minute mark in the 50 FR — I am sure she’ll do it at Perth!
  • Lilia taking 7 seconds off her 50 FR
  • Paige for her support of her teammates and for turning in a great 50 BK despite her dislike of the stroke
  • Bea smiling from ear to ear realizing that she can do this and knocking 5 seconds off her 50 FR – great things to come from this one
  • Siena getting into fast territory in 50 FR with a 37 and knocking time off her 50 BK — amazing job
  • Chloe showing great composure and grit. A fire has been lit.
  • Adelle for becoming an all around performer with a great BR performance and a terrific IM – never a doubt!
  • Brie for breaking 2 minutes on the 100 FR — bring on Perth!
  • Siena for her 37 second 50 FR. We’re getting faster!
  • Katia for her dedication to the FL — always looking to improve
  • Jasmine for breaking through on her 50 BK with a spirited swim — no stopping her now
  • Aline for her anchor in the 200 FR relay, breaking the 35 second mark — the first ever for our 12U girls

Ribbons for the last Yellow & Blue in October are trickling out thanks to our Head Ribbon’r Tara. Ribbons for Belleville have not been received yet from the host club.

Future Events

WAVE will attend the NKB Invitational in January. This meet will be for those athletes who have qualified for Regionals or are close to qualifying for Regionals.  We are allowed 50 swimmers. The sign-up email will be going out before Christmas break.

The calendar for 2023 is starting to fill in. We are still filling in some spots but most swim meets will be in town or close to town as the polo season kicks in to high gear in the Spring and most tournaments require travel. The last event will be the Maddy Kort Invitational in Belleville. This is a great way to end the year. And then it’s open water season.

Final Thoughts

We will be talking to our young athletes about goal setting before the Christmas break. It’s important for them to set goals so that they are motivated to train and can see progress. The stickers are all a part of this process. Now as we enter into training for Regionals (Swimming) and Provincials (Polo) it’s time to get serious.

Life is always better in the water,
