A weekly update from Coach Rodrigo and Coach Fraser
Only good news this week!
First off, congratulations to Marko for becoming a Canadian and for letting us share this important milestone with his teammates!
We know the athletes are getting antsy to start playing again so we’ve decided to start scrimmaging again this week. With COVID policies being relaxed, the timing seems to be right.
The focus this past week for swimming has been on breathing. Being able to breathe while swimming and to stay relaxed is of the upmost importance. Our focus is always on blowing out while under the water and taking small breathes with minimal head movement to avoid those big gasps for air that break streamline.
Once a swimmer understands that, you’re off to the races. Just ask Ryder! In his own words, he said he was “21% faster” thanks to his improved breathing technique. Well done, Ryder.
In water polo we re-introduced the base position. It’s hard work to maintain but is essential to playing the game since from this position you can easily pass and shoot the ball as well as move up the pool while keeping the ball safe.
If you have the time, please watch this video with your athlete –
A few reminders
- Label your equipment! Coach Fraser will have a white marker at practices.
- Every athlete must have their necessary equipment at all practices. Consider getting a mesh bag so that your swimmer can bring all equipment to the pool deck.
- Lastly, let the coaches know of any absences at coach@capitalwave.ca. It is important so they can plan ahead.
