From the staff at UOttawa

We would like to remind everyone that all bathers must shower with warm water and soap, and rinse off the soap, prior to entering the pool area. Showering directly affects pool chemistry and air quality. This is also required by the Health Regulations in Ontario.

As per the CDC (Centre for Disease Control, www.cdc.gov):

  • Keep the pee, poop, sweat, blood, and dirt out of the water.
  • Shower before you get in the water. Rinsing off in the shower for just 1 minute removes most of the dirt or anything else on your body.
  • Stay out of the water if you have diarrhea.
  • The pool is only as clean as you are!

Thank you to all the coaches who are currently reminding their athletes to go and shower before using the pool. We ask that you continue doing this.

Our staff may do “shower blitzes” where they send bathers who look like they have not showered to return to the change room and shower. Please obey lifeguard instructions at all times.
